Description
Burnet was valued most for its herbal healing qualities. A tea made from the leaves is supposed to have been taken by American Revolutionary soldiers the night before entering battle so that, if wounded, they would not bleed to death. Fresh leaves are used in salads, drinks, and vinegar. When used fresh, it has great value. Use it in sandwiches, salads, cold soups, salad dressings, soft cheese, cocktails, or sprinkled over chicken, fish, or vegetables. Salad Burnet has a thin, light green stem and emerald green, slightly rounded, serrated leaflets. It imparts a cucumber-like flavor to dishes and beverages.
Salad Burnet has medicinal benefits that go back millennia to help staunch bleeding. The plant has some nutritional benefits as well, such as vitamin A, carbohydrates, and protein.
